I noticed something this year. Usually from parties which ar'nt good.
Apparently, some people think asthma is this tragic, death inducing, illness.
Really. This very common illness has a reputation of being some tear inducing sobfest, apparently.
I have asthma, but it's not a problem. I don't mention it unless someone see the inhaler in my hand and says something, and I only mention it for medical reason otherwise.
It's not good, not saying it is.
I'm not sure what mine is, lower medium, or something like that. And I am bit under what I should read on a peak flow meter. But the peak flow meters always been like that.
Some less than good results have been due to the weather, or I was ill. Or bad inhalers and me not following proper procedure, a bit.
Going for a asthma review is a very good thing. Everyone gets lazy, and has bad habits, sometimes.
And that's saying something, coming from me.
I'm no advocate of medical fussing. I'm the exact opposite.
IMHO, doctors spend far too much time on playing big brother, and govourment crap, and too little on actual illness'.
Get the bloody waiting times down and make many more appointment dates! Stop fracking whinging on about fracking obesity levels and all that sickening big brother shit!
So anyway, I have asthma. I don't mention it. It's not a problem.
Since I got the accuhaler, with combined steroid and ventalin, it's got much better. The steroid inhaler got really bad, and I was going through far too many of the things, with too low a result. They were fucking crap, those inhalers. Fucking useless.
I's only a a bit worse when the weathers hot or I am ill or stressed.
So I take the accuhaler once in a morning and once at night. And use the ventalin if I need it, during the day.
Well, I volunteer at a charity shop twice a week. and I sometimes need to use the ventalin.
And I would/will sit there in the break room, take out my ventalin, and all kinds of soppy hell breaks out.
Apparently, some peoples idea of a asthmatic is a weezing, feeble, mess, that's about to drop at any moment.
A common comment being
'I did'nt know you had asthma. You don't look it.'
Cue soppy, pitying, looks.
Excuse me?! WTF do you think a fracking asthmatic looks like?!
You do what you're meant to, no one is going to freaking well know!
Seriously, you do what your doctor and nurse says, no one has to know!
Now, there is reasons behind some of this crap. But sometimes, it's straight up wierd.
It's got to the point, that when I get my ventalin out, and someone says,' Oh you have asthma.', my response is this.
Yes, I have asthma. It's not a problem.
Sensible people, they go, okay.
But sometimes this happens.
It's either a attempt at a pity party.
Or they proceed to try and talk about how they've got asthma, and show off thier drugs.
FFS! I quietly took my fucking ventalin out, used it, put it away. I did'nt say I wanted to go through your entire fucking medical list! No, I don't want to see your inhalers. No I don't want to talk about it.
I shut that stuff down fast.
I've come to the conclusion that in media, there is this ridiculous portrayal of asthmatics as feeble, weezing, mess', who are about to drop dead.
I never seen it. But they're getting this idea from somewere!
And I swear, this is new/newer. I've had asthma all my life. And never before, has it got this weird response.
If it from films, tv? Books? Is asthma the go to illness for a 'weaker' character?
I think it's the use of it for trying to make children in films, etc, likable. It's dignified enough to not squick everyone out. Like bed wetting. That's a bit eugh. And autism, the favourite of morons who don't get it at all, is for the really desperate. Asthma, it just involves a prop and some acting.
It is a 'weakness' to try and force them to be liked.
Film makers, etc. It. Does'nt. Work. Just leave the child healthy and if they're likable, they'll be liked!
Most children in films, tv, etc, are vile bastards.
That's the most likely reason why, I think. Unless there's worse things going on with the portrayal.
........................................................
So, if you've seen this rubbish. Which I hav'nt but apparently it is about.
This is the facts on asthma and inhalers.
Asthma is serious, but if you do what your doctor and nurse tells you, you will be fine.
No one will ever know.
You can't tell.
Asthmatics don't spend thier entire time ready to collapse. They ar'nt any weaker than anyone else.
There is no reason to pity them.
There is no reason to try and have a pity party with it. SO DON'T FUCKING TRY IT!
They ar'nt sad and weepy about it.
It's not tragic.
It does not stop them doing everything they want or have to.
The blue inhaler, ventalin, is used for things other than asthma, maybe.
It's for expanding the lungs. It may have other uses than asthma.
There is diferent stages and types of asthma. Talk to a proffessional if you want to know more.
WHATEVER A PERSON HAS, YOU CAN SAFELY SAY THEY AR'NT GOING TO DROP DEAD!
If they're walking about, and they are doing stuff, they know what they're doing!
It does'nt ever need to be a bloody pity party, and they ar'nt made of china and about to collapse!
Asthmatics carry the ventalin, etc with them at all times, if they hav'nt got both inhalers!
Yes it could kill you if you were really unfortunate or stupid. But the chance of a asthma attack means the warning and danger is there the ENTIRE FREAKING TIME!
You do not go through life, knowing this, and not superglue the fragging ventalin, at least, to your side at all times when on the smallest walk or journey!
Any sensible asthmatic has their inhaler/s with them at all times! They know what they're doing!
And most likely, they will have their asthma under control and never have a asthma attack in their life.
It's not that hard to control.
There are so many worse things than asthma.
Its very common. Sometimes people grow out of it. Sometimes they don't.
Either way, the person knows what they're doing, most likely.
So don't try and turn it into a fracking pity party!
