Have you ever had a pounding urge to get or go to something, that goes beyond your actual wish to do it?
Have you ever seen someone get suddenly interested in something, to the point their response is'nt right?
And saying no you don't like it, they get angry?
A common one is when 'popular opinion' sends the sheep in the populace into a 'it's good', frenzy.
Have you ever observed people jump from indeferent to rabid in the time it takes a advert to run?
Seen something take off insanely, for no reason. And wondered why.
Then you have probabely witnessed Promotional Magic.
Promotional magic is a kind of magic that companies use to push their products.
It's used on everything. Films, books, tv, everything there is.
The way it works is by grabbing onto anything the person likes already that is related, however remotely, and trying to associate the subject with it.
Then it fills into their head, while repeating the same things, till they ignore it or are fooled.
It feeds on any interest or, in worst versions, on the wish to ignore it too. Infinately.
It's a nasty magic. Used on things that are good to terrible. More on terrible things.
I've seen much promotional magic over the years. Some of the worst, it's evil.
Promotional magic can last for years. But sometimes it dies out.
Promotional magic works best on people who like it or the subject.
On people who don't like it, not much or at all successful.
Sometimes a subjects so crap, it fails completely.
And it is caught by looking at or hearing about the product. And compounded by looking at it further.
It works like this.
A rabbit film is made.
PM
Look a film about rabbits, look at it!
Person
I like rabbits. But I'm more into Beatrix Potter than Watership Down.
PM
You will like this film! It's got rabbits! Like it! Like it!
Person
No! I am not watching this film! It's not my thing!
Then it either works or fails.
It can also be used to try and stop people from watching a rival films, etc.
It also can be part of the cause of rabid fans.
Only part, rabid fans are crazy on their own.
Things that use or used strong promotional magic are these
Robocop.
That promotional magics been about since the original. A big spell.
They use a slightly diferent type for the remake.
They stopped bothering as the product got worse and there was no point. In the past.
Dan Brown stuff
They used a massive, nasty, promotional magic on that piece of crap book he did.
It sent people rabid. I saw the nasty results first hand.
Avatar
A lot of promotional magic was used there. Nasty stuff.
Toy Story
A lot of nasty promotional magic with that.
Brave
That film had a nasty promotional magic. But as it sucks, it did'nt work.
The Hobbit/LOTR
That has massive promotional magic.
Not as much needed on the LOTRs films
But much more there on The Hobbit because, the hobbit is desperate, dragged out, crap. Therefore they are more desperate to push the magic.
It cannot stand on it's own, like the LOTR films could.
Ok Promotional Magic
CoD
The Call Of Duty games use a less offensive version. It is pushy, but it accepts if you don't want to play it.
A strong version was there for CoD Black Ops 2.
.................................................
A related magic is
Dissuadtion Magic
Dissuadtion Magic is magic that make you not like something.
It can be used for product promotion, or much more sinister reasons.
Sometimes part of Promotion Magic, or used with it.
Like with Avatar, it was attached to some dissuadtion magic, that tried to stop people watched other films. Especially the rival, District 9.
It works like promotions magic, by getting into a persons head and attaching to related or barely related things.
But, due it being a negative thing, it has less strength than associating things with what a person likes.
It works less well than promotion magic.
.......................................................
The cure.
For every spell there is a anti spell.
And that goes for promotional magic and disuadtion magic.
The cure for promotional magic and dissuadtion magic is the anti spell, or destruction.
If you detect promotional magic or dissuadtion magic, then the best thing to do is destroy it or try and ignore it. If it get's a grip, it will make you do wierd stuff.
